Faith Formation at Mt. Carmel for Children
Our Sunday School program at Mount Carmel focuses on the Biblical story. Using the Book of Faith initiative of the ELCA as our springboard, we
have assigned a “Biblical theme” to each month/church season and each week
features stories in that theme. The story is read during worship, retold in a creative way at the
beginning of Sunday School, and then the children break off into smaller groups to explore the story or theme in another age appropriate way. The children learn the big stories of the Biblical narrative and also
quite a lot about the rhythms of the church year. We use music and storytelling, wonderful books and resources, and the
gifts and talents of the people in our congregation to put together a great
program. Additionally, parents receive a newsletter with ideas and resources for
practicing faith at home.
